Key AMA Committee Recommends Retention of Longstanding AMA Position in Opposition to Assisted Suicide and Euthanasia

Over the past two years, the American Medical Association’s Council on Ethical and Judicial Affairs (CEJA) studied doctor assisted suicide to determine if it should take a neutral stance on the issue.  After carefully reviewing the literature and receiving thoughtful input from numerous individuals and organizations to inform its deliberations, CEJA recommends that the AMA’s Code of Medical Ethics retain its longstanding position in opposition to assisted suicide and euthanasia.
